Hello, my lovelies! For such a simple shoot, this was surprisingly difficult. There's a really fine line between something that looks like a romance novel, and something that looks like modelling. Almost every photo is either a good cover shot or a good modelling shot, or it was disgustingly safe, and I don't believe in safe. The title of my novel would be: "Untameable: A Tale of Tough Love." I know it's in black and white, but as a writer I can tell you that that can actually be a good tactic in the publishing business, to make your book noticeable. Hope you like it!

Adele: There's a lack of passion for me between you and your man. I want more than this. I want it to be spicier and juicier!!! I want more emotion from you too. But you look beautiful here. I love the styling in the photo. Overall, it was just an okay photo for me

I understand the emotional bit, but to be honest I couldn't find anything that looked passionate without being completely un-model-like. Last cycle, I knocked my brains out trying to find photos that fit the theme, and almost every single round I got criticized for not having good enough modelling quality, and that's why I ultimately lost to January.
So if I have to pick between theme and quality, I'll pick a photo where I look good over a photo that perfectly meets the theme, every time.

Amanda: The black and white is striking and, with colored text, could be REALLY striking. However, I must agree that there is no passion, no connection, no real love here, and you look sort of masculine. I do love your hair and the leather jacket is shiny and sexy, but your face is just... weak, especially your lips. His face is kind of funky too, to be honest. Don't worry - I don't hate this, but I don't love it either.

Hayley: Why do I think you two are just dance partners? The styling and posing works well for the theme this week, though. There could have been more passion coming from you two, but I still see some there. I do like that it's in black and white. I think it adds more character to this photo. Picturing it in color, I doubt it'd be better.

Natalie: I don't know how I feel about the black and white. You don't normally see that on a book cover, since those are meant to grab your eye. I also feel like you and the guy are sort of equals in this photo, and that doesn't help. Overall, it's just okay for me.

That's what Monica was saying... and I definitely agree with her.

I see that you agree with her. I do not necessarily think black and white was the best choice, is all. Tis why we have 4 judges.

Question to ponder: Would this specific photo grab your eye anywhere near as much if it were colorized?

It would make more sense to me as a novel cover if it were colored, is all.

It would make more sense to me as a novel cover if it were colored, is all. You're trying to argue that against two English majors...? Are you aware how many books we've both seen with black and white covers? Granted, most of the ones I've seen were nonfiction works. But they do exist.

It would make more sense to me as a novel cover if it were colored, is all. It's your opinion and your preference, so I can respect that and tis response isn't an attack towards you. Just stating my view on it. I think that a black and white cover can wind up standing out more than a cover in color. With the right picture, black and white adds more impact to a photo.

Hahaha. Goodness me, I had no idea I'd cause so much controversy. Shoot's over, so it doesn't really matter, anyway...

I'm not saying that books with black and white covers don't exist. I'm simply saying that for a book cover, color made more sense to me. I wasn't trying to argue with anyone, so please don't discredit my judging because I am not pursuing the same degree as you.
